Guidance Counselor Cristina Tompkins said the college waived its usual application fee, a welcome benefit for students who may look to attend the SUNY-affiliated school in Valhalla as one of their post-secondary options.

Senior Tahleeyah James said she didn’t know much about the school but hopes to learn more. Tahleeyah plans to follow in her mother’s footsteps and study nursing. “It’s always been a dream,” she says.

Ms. Tompkins explained to her and a half-dozen other students completing applications that a school like WCC offers a broad range of options. These college events are an annual occurrence here, she added.

One student who is studying Automotive Technology at Southern Westchester BOCES’ Center for Career Services asked about Universal Technical Institute in Bloomfield, N.J. That led to that institution scheduling a visit to campus next month. Meanwhile, another student’s inquiry led to plans for a visit by an admissions official from Mercy College.
