It is my honor to serve as the Principal of the Transfiguration School. I look forward to working with your child and your family throughout the school year.

Transfiguration School houses programs within the Southern Westchester BOCES Center for Special Services, serving students in the AIIM and IDT elementary programs. Our classrooms work to implement strategies that support the development of each child’s academic and social emotional skills. In conjunction with a students’ IEP, teachers and related service providers work together closely to ensure students continue to meet their goals throughout the school year.

  • Join us for a virtual SEPTA Meeting - 11/20 at 6:30 PM!

    Please join SWBOCES SEPTA in welcoming Janine Belfast and Carole Lucas from The Westchester Institute for Human Development for a virtual presentation on November 20, 2025 at 6:30 PM. The presentation will focus on the important transition topics -Supported Decision Making and Self-Direction.

  • Thanksgiving food drive brings out generous spirit at Transfiguration

    With the help of students like Keren, pictured helping to post flyers around the school, SWBOCES at Transfiguration is hosting a Thanksgiving Food Drive. The effort is collecting donations from families and staff at the Tarrytown school through Nov. 21. All donations will go to Feeding Westchester. Items requested include canned gravy, canned corn, stuffing, cranberry sauce, corn bread, rolls & biscuits, white rice, canned yams, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese. "I'm heartened by the show of generosity and student engagement this food drive has brought out in our Transfiguration community," Principal Francesca Fernandez. "Knowing we are helping our neighbors in need at this holiday time is a precious gift in itself."

  • Transfiguration School teachers collaborate at professional learning session

    Election Day was a day off for students, but SWBOCES educators at the Transfiguration School in Tarrytown spent the day working together in the gymnasium during professional development workshops. The superintendent's conference day was an opportunity for them to learn together and collaborate around best practices. Classes resumed the following day with the return of students.

  • Inclusive, interactive design offers opportunities for all students to enjoy

    SWBOCES at Transfiguration School cuts ribbon on new playgrounds

    Laughter and excitement resonated as students at Southern Westchester BOCES’ Transfiguration School in Tarrytown celebrated the opening of their brand-new playground Oct. 17.

    “This playground has been designed for our students — really serving the needs of students from ages 5 to 12 with communication needs,” Ms. Fernandez said. “We have a wonderful communication board, lots of spinning items, cool slides, and great adaptive swings. I know our students are already getting to it.”

  • Restorative Practices

    Students had a half day on Monday. October 20 and staff attended professional development by Ramapo for Children on Restorative Practices. Dr. Sunne-Ryse Smith engaged staff at Transfiguration in an informative session in the Gym.

  • Transfiguration Turns Pink!

    On Friday, October 17th Transfiguration Turned Pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness. Staff and students supported their beautiful hues of pink to support a great cause!

  • Windows in Hispanic Heritage

    SWBOCES at Transfiguration celebrated with Hispanic Heritage Month on Wednesday, October 15 with a learning walk to showcase various aspects of Hispanic Culture. 

    Classrooms across the school learned about figure(s) across the categories of music, sports, acting, dancing. cuisine, arts, inventors and scientists. 

    Special thanks to the Connected Learning Team for their coordination of special event and opportunity!
