St. Matthew's celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Class projects, cuisine reflect multiple countries and cultures

Festive décor and authentic cuisine made for an enjoyable luncheon to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, at St. Matthew’s School in White Plains.

Teachers and staff made and served a variety of items from fresh cooked quesadillas to an elaborate salad bar and more. Stations along the buffet featured the flags of four countries: Mexico for Ms. Cookes’s class; Columbia for Mr. Rucci’s class; the Dominican Republic for Ms. Amy and Mr. Dave’s class; and Peru for Mr. Scott’s class. The multicultural event provided opportunities for students to learn about the traditions of their own and other cultural heritages.

“We not only had the opportunity to celebrate these various cultures, we also felt a greater sense of community and belonging by coming together for this wonderful St. Matthew’s tradition,” Principal Diana Dinzey said.
