New assistant principal drawn by Tappan Hill School’s focus on students
Jonathan Remeny succeeds Francesca Fernandez, who was named principal last month
Tappan Hill School's new assistant principal, Jonathan Remeny, is excited about the chance to work more closely with students once again.
After a decade as an assistant principal, principal and then director with the Westchester School for Special Children, Mr. Remeny comes to Southern Westchester BOCES primed to support students and families more directly. Tappan Hill’s culture and setting offered him that opportunity in a way his previous roles didn’t afford.
“I totally missed working with kids and staff on the day-to-day stuff,” he said. “Every promotion takes you away from kids a little, and it was time to go back to that.”
His new role became available after Assistant Principal Francesca Fernandez succeeded longtime Principal Phyllis Rizzi this summer. Mr. Remeny brings experience working with similar students and programs to those who attend Tappan Hill. He’ll also bring the same energy he brings to being in the gym every day at 5 a.m.
“Work is a huge part of my life, and I feel like I’ve found a great fit here for me,” he said. “I look forward to getting to know the children and families throughout the year.”
